Activity Choices

These are activities throughout the day where campers choose what they want to do. Some activities are continued throughout the entire session and others can be chosen daily. Choice activities keep camp life fresh, action-packed, and fun! Choice activities include avodah, sports, Israeli culture, and chugim.

Garden

Avodah (Community Projects)

At Tavor everyone participates in taking care of camp. Campers can choose from activities such as feeding the animals, preparing snacks, painting murals, building benches, and harvesting our organic garden. These project groups are chosen at the beginning of the session and campers remain in these groups to develop skills and expertise in their chosen project. Physical projects such as benches and murals remain at camp for decades and campers love to come back summer after summer to see their hard work put to use!

Sports

Sports

Campers can choose to participate in the same sport each day or choose a different one each time. Some activities include soccer, baseball, ultimate Frisbee, basketball, running, yoga, dance, swimming, boating, volleyball, and tennis. Campers are encouraged to bring their personal sports equipment such as baseball gloves, tennis rackets, lacrosse sticks, and sport-specific shoes.

israelis

Israeli Culture

Campers come to Tavor with a range of Israeli culture and Hebrew knowledge. Israeli and American counselors come together to plan a variety of activities to get campers familiar with and excited about Israeli foods, celebrations, history, geography, and language. Each day campers can choose from an assortment of activities specific to their interests and previous knowledge. Activities have included Israeli cooking, playing Israeli games, learning contemporary Hebrew songs, and exploring the map of Israel by creating one out of candy and ice cream. Yum!

Chugim (Special Interest Groups or Clubs)

At the beginning of each session, campers join a chug of their choice and meet with that group for the rest of the session. Clubs change each summer based on campers’ interests and counselors’ abilities. Past clubs have included drama, basketball, dance, choir, jam sessions or music appreciation, yoga, arts and crafts, gardening, reading, and photography. Many of these clubs work on projects or productions to present to camp at the weekly campfire at the end of the session. Campers are encouraged to bring to camp any musical instruments or other props to use during their clubs.
