Summer Programs

Just 30 minutes from Kalamazoo, MI and 2.5 hours from both Chicago, IL and Detroit, MI, Camp Tavor is located on a beautiful private lakefront along Lake Kaiser in Three Rivers, MI. Our camp property includes a beach and lake swimming area, swimming pool, sports fields, arts and crafts and music facilities, a lakeside amphitheater, numerous hiking trails that connect the many shtachim (living areas), and a variety of indoor and outdoor gathering spaces to host stimulating, enriching, and varied daily activities.

With a 4:1 camper-to-counselor ratio and a maximum of 200 campers per session, Camp Tavor provides a nurturing and inclusive community for campers of all ages. Camp programming ranges from small activities for chanichimot (campers) in the same ohel (tent) or shichvah (age group) to full camp activities that create intergenerational opportunities for learning and fun!

Check out our glossary page for an explanation of the intentional shift from chanichim to chanichimot!

Each camper lives in a shetach (living area), organized by grade in school. Within each shetach (living area), chanichimot (campers) sleep with about 4-6 of their peers and 1-2 madrichimot (counselors) in either ohelim (large, canvas tents with a wooden or cement platform) or tzrifim (cabins).  In addition to the group of madrichimot (counselors) with each shichvah (age group), a mashatz (supervisor) provides additional support and supervision to each group. Each shetach includes a bath and shower house and each shichvah (age group) has its own moadon(community gathering area) for group activities and to encourage community building.

Camp Tavor offers a variety of program lengths to meet the needs of our chanichimot (campers) and their families.

Taste of Tavor

Our Taste of Tavor program is an opportunity for first-time campers to have a wonderful shorter-term Jewish overnight camp experience, while still experiencing the highlights, excitement, and community building of full-session camp programming. During Taste of Tavor, chanichimot (campers) participate in all the wonderful aspects of Camp Tavor through a special program designed to help campers feel comfortable in a new overnight camp setting. Taste of Tavor is 7 days long both First and Second Session. We hope that Taste of Tavor is the beginning of a long relationship with Camp Tavor! Taste of Tavor is available for chanichimot(campers) entering 3rd, 4th and 5th grade in the fall after camp.

Explore Tavor

Explore Tavor is a medium-length overnight camping opportunity for chanichimot (campers) of all ages to explore Tavor’s unique and empowering camp programming.

Explore Tavor, available for both first and second-session, is an excellent opportunity for campers working to find time for camp in a busy summer schedule or looking to try out overnight camp for the first time!

Explore Tavor is only available for first and second-time campers entering 3rd – 7th grade in the fall after camp.

First Session & Second Session

Our all-day program provides exciting and fun-filled days at camp. Campers return home at the end of each day tired, yet eager for the next morning when they get to come back for more enjoyable experiences. Under the supervision of caring, well-trained staff, campers at Habonim Dror Camp Tavor are sure to have the time of their lives.

Bogrimot

This 5-week Bogrimot Program for those heading into the 10th grade. This program is an opportunity for Tavor chanichimot to return to machaneh (camp) for a summer of leadership growth and exploration.

During this extended session, chanichimot (campers) will run a Bo-Coup takeover at camp and build adventure and wilderness conservation skills leading up to participation in a five-day road trip and tiyul (camping trip!) adventure in Michigan's gorgeous Upper Peninsula. Click HERE to see our amazing trip video from 2019.

During 2nd session participants will have additional leadership opportunities as a kvutza, such as participating in a 2-day Pre-Madatz Seminar with more kvutza-mates, and joint programming with the Madatz Leadership Program.

Madatz Leadership Program

The madatz program offers our future madrichim (counselors) an intense training program in hadracha (leadership) and a wonderful opportunity to experience living and working together as a kvutzah (group).

The program focuses on opportunities for Madatzimot to develop communication, leadership and facilitation skills and cultivate developmentally appropriate programming ideas for chanichimot (campers).

Kadima

Kadima is a 3-week program hosted at our very own Machaneh (Camp) Tavor.

The program gives participants an opportunity to meet their national shichvah (age group) and explore the Midwest. The educational focus of Kadima is on Judaism and social justice.

Participants will be engaging with local issues and organizations through a Jewish lens while also participating in service learning projects and educational seminars.

Kadima participants will be exploring the Midwestern region through hiking trips and fun outings that focus on creating community.
